A new website has production fees and hosting fees. Your developer will work out how much production time it will take to assemble your website. A hosting fee is an annual subscription.
Before production starts, we will agree on the cost and the deadlines.
If you’ve ever listened to music on media such as a record, CD or tape, you can understand that hosting is the media and the website is the music. The host “plays” your website for anyone that visits.
A good hosting service offers monitoring and backups, SSL and guaranteed uptime.
Good question! Some people are “do it your selfers”. When hiring a professional, though, you benefit from more than just experience and skill on your project. A professional knows how to build a website on time and on budget and has access to development tools you might not.
DNS stands for Domain Name System. It is the framework behind your domain name. Using Records, the settings point to your website and email, among other things.
Well, Facebook is certainly easy to post your upcoming events and sales information, but it is not at all like a website. For one thing, it is not the world wide web and has a limited audience.
Think of your online presence as a wheel. The center of the wheel is your website. The spokes are social media, email marketing, and advertising. Your website, if set up properly, will track interactions and provide a professional, relevant presence as users are directed to use it.
A website gives your business a professional presence on the world wide web in a way that Facebook does not.
That depends on what my client needs. Most of the newer websites are built on WordPress framework, but it’s not unusual to use a different builder if we need a full e-commerce site. In that case, we shop around (no pun intended) for the best one. Sometimes, a client never needs to edit the back end of their website. In that case, I use a standard HTML and CSS responsive layout. Either way, a client gets the front end and back end they need.
Maybe. Some of the newer “easy” platforms offer little in terms of layout and design. You cannot always get what you want, and custom CSS might not be an option. If you are really unhappy with your website, let me know and I’ll see what I can do on a per project basis.
Ack! Call, email and text me right away – we’ll host something quickly, and then when not in emergency mode, let’s plan building the rest of the pages out. Sites go down for lots of reasons thanks to hackers, expired subscriptions or lost domain names.
I’m happy to assist in getting you out of an emergency!
The domain name is the thing that names your website. For instance, the domain name for google is google.com. If your company sells widgets, then it’s a good idea to have the word “widgets” in your domain name – bestwidgets.com or kentuckywidgets . Generic is best as it matches what people are searching for, in this case – widgets!
I like GoDaddy for purchasing domain names. They have fast servers, which means your domain will be available to you almost immediately. I know you can save a few dollars on other resellers, but it will cost in the long run with DNS management issues and lost time. Really strapped for cash? I get it – shop around because some name servers are a little less expensive.
Treat your domain name like gold. Do not lose the login for the account or let it expire. A lost domain name can cost thousands to get back, or to replace and rebrand.
We’ll happily make routine updates to your site for FREE if you are on our standard hosting package. Need more than that or host somewhere else? No problem, let’s figure out how much work is involved and agree on a monthly service fee.
